The Castle Green Hotel combines a mix of business and pleasure with its conference and training centre, two function rooms, 99 bedrooms, two restaurants, and fitness and leisure club. As Kendal’s only 4 star Hotel, you will find award winning facilities driven by a desire to champion local produce and local suppliers and serviced by a local friendly and attentive team, which many visitors state as the reason why they return.

The original house at Castle Green was built by twice mayor of Kendal, Thompson Bindloss in 1848, becoming the regional office for Norweb from the 1950s. James and Catherine Alexander purchased the property in 1996, converting the building into a 65 bedroom hotel (increased to 99 bedrooms in 2000) set within the original 14 acres of mature grounds and woodland with spectacular views towards Kendal Castle and the Lakeland Fells.

Whilst being able to service any type of hotel requirement we focus clearly on our core markets of conference, weddings & events and leisure breaks and have developed the business through the years with these in mind. The conference market is our key business driver and we are unusual in providing business led facilities in a predominantly leisure destination.

From the outset we have employed local staff, without live in accommodation in order to create a unique ambience, local expertise and friendliness of service for our guests. Over forty employees have five or more years service, which is very unusual in hospitality, and a fact we celebrate every November (the Hotel’s birthday) with a dinner for all ‘Five Year Club’ members. This commitment by the team has developed a Castle Green way of doing things which has the customer at its heart. Staff  ‘go the extra mile’ because they want to enhance guests experiences, not because it was in the training manual.

Our business philosophy has always been to exceed expectations, compete to be better and never be complacent. This drives our budget for refurbishments, the most recent being a £250,000 redesign of our 2 AA Restaurant, lounge and bar areas and a £450,000 upgrade of 33 standard bedrooms ensuring we have the best product. Our in house training programmes not only focus on service standards but all staff from assistant manager level up have undertaken our profit improvement course to explain how our business is run and our profitably so they can fully contribute to the success of the Hotel.
