One of the things John appreciates most about living in Cumbria is the work-life balance, particularly in comparison to his life in Liverpool.
Since moving to Cumbria, he finds it much easier to switch off after a working day and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Lake District.
He says: “When I was stuck in the daily grind of a big city, the commute and feeling like I was in the rat race, I struggled to switch off.
“Now, we get home, take the dog out for a walk and soon forget about work. Generally, it’s much easier to turn off - how can you not when you look out of the window?
“We’re not the type to go running up fells; we’re not runners or mountaineers.
“It’s the basic things for us - we really like going to the pub at weekends, enjoying good food and drink, getting out and about. Where we are now, we’re pretty well situated. We’ve got about eight or nine great pubs within a few miles, so there’s a lot going on.
“Everyone I know who has moved to Cumbria enjoys living here. It feels vibrant, especially around South Lakes where we are, there's a lot of things going on like festivals and there’s always something in Bowness and Windermere.
“We work through the week and go out to enjoy food and drink at the weekend, take the dog out walking a bit, mooch around and just enjoy where we live.
“Nothing particularly high-adrenaline, it’s just like being on holiday every weekend - it’s great.”
