Cumbria hits the right notes for keen musician Chris

Chris Barnes, 47, is a Media Studies teacher at Barrow Sixth Form College

Chris swapped city life in Manchester with a move to Dalton-in-Furness after deciding to make a holiday “romance” more permanent.

Chris is a keen musician, and is impressed with the thriving live music scene in Cumbria.

“One of the things I first noticed here is the amount of live music,” he said. “You can go to a small pub on a Thursday night and there’s a band playing, with everyone from 16 to 80 year olds making music.

“I like films as well, so it’s nice to have an independent cinema club nearby. Signal Films is the sort of thing you’d get in a city and there it is, in the middle of Barrow.

“Barrow is a very sociable place compared to London and Manchester, and I love the honesty and warmth of Barrovians. It’s not unusual to have a good laugh with a stranger here.

“I’ve moved a lot over the years, but this is the first place where I don’t want to move. There’s no reason for me to want to leave Cumbria.”
