Colin Read, 47, Emergency Medicine Consultant at Royal Lancaster Infirmary for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT), lives in Bowness-on-Windermere.

Colin's role in emergency medicine has taken him to Australia and back, but he's the happiest he's ever been working close to The Lake District.

Play

Colin makes the most of having The Lake District on his doorstep and has seen an increase in his fitness levels as a result.

He said: “I run and cycle regularly, and that wouldn't have been as enjoyable in a city. You can go out for a run or a ride on fells you haven’t seen before, and it’s almost impossible to have any stress when you return home from that kind of activity, finishing the evening with a drink with your mates.

“I'm the fittest I've ever been in my life – and the happiest too with job satisfaction and a feeling that the team in Lancaster really make a positive difference to patients. It's not difficult to be happy living in Windermere.

“Everyone is aiming to be happy and healthy, and I've found that here in Cumbria.”
