Over 1,000 swimmers from the UK and beyond will travel to Windermere next month to take part in the 2016 Big Chillswim Winter Swimming Gala.
English Lakes Hotels, a partner of Choose South Cumbria, will host the event at Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel & Marina near Ambleside from February 5-7.
With a record number of competitors travelling from Australia, USA, Mexico, Russia and Eastern European, Chillswim has become an official 2016 ‘Winter Swimming World Cup’ fixture.
The gala kicks off with the World Open Water Swimming Association Awards before a weekend of races, including the including the British 1km Winter Swimming Championships.
Chillswim director Colin Hill said: “With the stunning Langdale Pikes as a backdrop, I can’t think of a better or more scenic venue for an exciting weekend of highly competitive swimming.”
Ben Berry from English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues added: “The local hospitality industry will get a welcome boost from the higher numbers of participants coming here to compete. It’s a fabulous achievement for Chillswim’s organisers.”
The gala is now fully subscribed but spectators can watch from the shores of Windermere. There will be park and ride services in operation from Waterhead and Brockhole Lake District Visitor Centre in Windermere.
