Two Barrow Sixth Form College students have won places on a prestigious scheme to find the brightest young business talent of the future.
Sian Dawes and Jackson Readett have secured places on the Dream Placement Scheme established by the Centre for Leadership Performance, an organisation which develops Cumbria’s leaders.
They will take up week-long placements with global pharmaceutical healthcare company GSK in Ulverston, a partner of Choose South Cumbria, in February after a competitive process including a selection event.
Jackson said: “I am applying for a microbiology apprenticeship at GSK and biomedical degree courses at university and this is a great chance to meet the leaders at GSK, find out how it all works and get an insight into the future plans for the plant.”
Sian said: “It’s great to be selected and definitely a good way to experience what it is actually like working at GSK. The interview went well and I talked about how we’d been making aspirin at college, which I think they must have liked.”
Both Jackson and Sian have been supported in the application process by Barrow Sixth Form careers advisor Samantha Roberts.
Samantha said: “They will be working with the senior leaders and senior management at GSK to learn about the industry and meet key people who could be really important to their future.
“Both Jackson and Sian are motivated and ambitious students and this is a chance to put a practical application to the academic work they are doing, which will help whether they decide to take up apprenticeships or go to university.”
