A host of South Cumbrian eateries scooped honours at the fifth annual Cumbria Life Food & Drink Awards.
Simon Rogan’s nationally-renowned L’Enclume in Cartmel took home the Restaurant of the Year award at the glittering ceremony, hosted by famous sheepdog handler Katy Cropper at Kendal College last night (Thursday, March 3).
Richard Eccles, editor of Cumbria Life magazine, said: "If Cumbria is the food capital of the UK outside London then south Cumbria is certainly its beating heart.
"The food scene around Cartmel and Ambleside is amazing, and in this year's awards it's been great to see so many people striking out on their own and opening cafes and bakeries who have learned their trade in places like L'Enclume and the Drunken Duck.”
The Choose South Cumbria-backed Dining Pub of the Year award was jointly won by the Drunken Duck, near Ambleside, and The Punch Bowl Inn in Crosthwaite.
New Spanish tapas restaurant L'al Churrasco in Ulverston won the prestigious Cumbria Life Readers’ Award, while Forest Side in Grasmere was named Best Newcomer and Hotel Restaurant of the Year.
The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Stuart and Pauline Higginson, who run Higginson’s of Grange. The husband and wife partnership source all their meat from local farms have won countless awards both locally and nationally for their outstanding Cumbrian meat.
