South Cumbria is preparing to host its first virtual careers fair, which will let people meet and learn about local employers no matter where they are in the world.

The fair will take place between Monday May 11 and Sunday May 17, and feature some of the biggest names in business, including GSK, BAE Systems and Siemens.

The event has been organised by Choose South Cumbria - an online initiative to promote the area as a place to live and work. Choose South Cumbria is a partnership being led by
the businesses along with local media company CN Media Group.

Big employers like GSK, BAE, Siemens, the NHS in South Cumbria, Furness College and Kimberly-Clark will all have virtual stalls at the event. They will be joined by smaller
companies and organisations who are also keen to attract employees including Athena PTS, Ulverston Victoria High School, Inspira, Story Homes, North Associates and Progression Solicitors.

Visitors will be able to login online to interact with employers via video or type chat. They will also have the chance to submit their CV and network with other job hunters.

There is due to be £26bn of investment taking place in the South Cumbria travel to work area over the coming decades, creating 25,000 careers in sectors ranging from engineering
and design to healthcare. Major investments include a new £350m biopharma facility at the GSK site in Ulverston.

Luke Dicicco, project manager for the Choose South Cumbria initiative, said: "The whole idea of the virtual careers fair is that people from all over the country and the world can have the chance to easily access information about what the area has to offer.

"There are a huge amount of career opportunities in the area to support the growth that is coming our way. And those of us who live here know from personal experience just what
a wonderful place it is to enjoy life outside work. It is hard to think of anywhere else in the country where people can achieve such a great work, life balance.

"South Cumbria is set to undergo a real boom over the coming decades and we want to give people the chance to find out how they can be part of it, working for world-renowned companies in challenging and exciting roles in a place that is world famous for its natural beauty, but still within easy reach of major cities and international transport hubs."
