Performing arts students at Barrow Sixth Form College are putting on a Shakespeare showcase this month as the town continues to celebrate The Bard’s 400th anniversary year.
Students at the college – which is a partner of Choose Cumbria – will hold workshops for members of the public, followed by a performance of Shakespeare classics Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream on Monday, May 9.
Kayleigh Hambly, who is directing the project as part of her Cambridge Technical course, is looking forward to sharing the playwright’s work.
She said: “We want people to enjoy a light-hearted look at Shakespeare’s work while improving access to arts for the community.”
The workshops at Barrow Sixth Form College on Rating Lane start at 4.30pm and the evening performances at 7pm. For more information contact drama tutor Kevin Major on 01229 828377.
The college showcase follows the launch of ‘The Bard in Barrow’ festival, which saw a statue in the town centre given a Shakespeare makeover with a ruff and quill.
