Revamps for University of Cumbria's Carlisle and Lancaster campuses

Published on: Wednesday 1st August 2018

A major programme of work to improve the University of Cumbria’s campuses in Carlisle is underway.

The library at its Institute of the Arts – the university’s Brampton Road site in Stanwix – is to be extended.

This will allow students and staff to have greater access to the resource, while the fine art department will also enjoy more space as a result of the project.

A new IT room is also being created and there is also improvement work being carried out to photographic studios as well as redecoration of the dance studios and corridors.

At Fusehill Street, the university’s headquarters, the Calva building will also be redecorated and recarpeted over the summer.

Work is also being carried out at the university’s site in Lancaster, its largest campus.

Investment in the library there will result in more car parking, energy efficient windows and new decorations in buildings used by education, psychology and social work students.

The University of Cumbria also has campuses in Ambleside and London.

The institution is gearing up for clearing, the annual summer search for university places after exam results are published in August.

The university celebrated its 10th anniversary last year and has a history stretching back 150 years.
