Cumbrian bus operator Reays has launched its own driving school.
The Wigton-based company, which operates bus services across the county, is delivering its own training programme to ensure consistency across its workforce.
The Reays Driving Academy links in with a recruitment drive for new staff who will be trained by the company to drive its coaches.
Steve Crossley, operations director of Reays, said drivers played a vital role in attracting and retaining customers.
"They are our ambassadors and therefore we must ensure they receive the right training and the very best training. Delivering a tailored programme in-house, ensures we deliver this," he said.
“I’m therefore proud and pleased to launch our own bespoke training programme, which has been designed to meet the specific needs of our business, places our driver training at the forefront of the coach industry and lays the foundations for further progress."
In addition to running daily bus services in Carlisle, Whitehaven and Wigton, Reays operates school buses, coach holidays, day trips and private hire.
Mr Crossley added: "As well as underlining our commitment to recruiting the right people, our training programme extends to the retention of existing drivers, offering them ongoing training and development.
"Ultimately, we hope to achieve the right balance between the importance of being a good, safe and reliable driver and an outstanding customer service provider both now and long into the future.”
The Reays Driving Academy will be promoted using a rebranded, training coach which is used for the practical aspect of driver training. This coach is bold in its design and it is hoped this will attract attention to those currently looking for employment or considering a change of career.
