Barrow Borough Council’s planning committee unanimously granted the application to redevelop Furness House, next to The Mall, Barrow. Three unnamed but well-known hotel companies are in contention to run the hotel, which would create almost 100 jobs.

Following the decision, Christopher Cole, surveyor to the property, told the Evening Mail: “I can tell you our plans are at an advanced stage, but we have not made any final decisions regarding an operator for the property. We expect to make a decision within the next few weeks. It will be of significant benefit to the local community.”
