The first Lakesman Triathlon is expected to attract 750 athletes from across the UK and beyond to the heart of The Lake District this Sunday (June 19).

The event will feature a 2.4 mile swim in Derwentwater, a 112 mile cycle to the west coast of Cumbria and a five-lap marathon course around Keswick.

Event organiser Marie Whitehead, of CN Events, said: “We’re so excited to finally bring this type of event to Cumbria – and we’re in the ideal location to do it.

“We reckon this could be the most scenic, one of the fastest, and the most enticing long-distance triathlon events in the country.”

Elite athletes are expected to complete the course in around 9.5 hours, with less experienced competitors expected to finish under 17.5 hours.

The Athlete Village at the Theatre By The Lake in Kewsick will feature fun family activities, a beer festival, food court and live stage on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19.

Choose Cumbria is proud to be supporting The Lakesman Triathlon and promoting the benefits of living and working in the region to competitors and spectators at the event.
