The College’s JobWorks scheme has been ranked in the UK’s top 10 for success rates, placed at number eight out of a total 49 providers.

The success rates take into account the number of people who have gained employment within three months of completing various courses at the College.

The short courses are designed to provide industry-led qualifications and develop existing and new employability skills, and include Accounting, First Aid, IT, and Team Leadership.

In the last two years at Kendal College, more than 200 people have gained relevant workplace qualifications to assist getting back to either full or part-time employment.

This equates to around a 50 per cent success rate in converting those skills and qualifications into a job.

Mark Wadsworth, JobWorks co-ordinator at Kendal College, said: “Losing a job or being made redundant can often really knock a person’s confidence. With JobWorks, we can help by providing valuable advice and guidance as well as access to a wide variety of courses.

“From short, sharp, effective training opportunities to support with CV’s, interview techniques, and job applications, our aim is to get people back into the workplace as soon as possible. So it’s great to know that so many of our learners are employed within three months of finishing their study programmes.”

Deborah O’Shea, 49, from Kendal, was one of those learners who successfully found full time employment after just three months. She said: “After being made redundant I realised that it had been around 15 years since I had updated my CV, and although I knew I had a lot of experience, I didn’t have anything down on paper to prove my skills.

“JobWorks was absolutely marvellous and really helpful. I was able to update my CV, brush up my interview technique, which included having a mock interview with the College, and learn new skills such as Health & Safety and IT through the courses. It was also great to meet other people who, like me, had always been used to being in full time employment.

“JobWorks gave me a purpose and increased my confidence, which definitely helped me secure a full time position with the NHS at Westmorland General Hospital. I have already recommended the service to a couple of friends.”
