Visitors to Kendal will be able to swoop on a variety of special offers this weekend to mark the reopening of one of the town’s major bridges affectionately named after winged superhero Batman.
Victoria Bridge was reopened last week following substantial repairs needed in the wake of the December floods and a number of companies and organisations have rallied to encourage people to shop in the town.
Specsavers are offering free eye tests, The Vault Gym is offering discounts on monthly gym memberships, and Reticule in Blackhall Yard is running textile craft demonstrations on Wednesday 17 February.
Meanwhile, shoppers at the Westmorland Shopping Centre can park all day for just £2.20 on Saturday and Sunday 20-21 February under and initiative from Kendal Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with South Lakeland District Council (SLDC).
Sarah Williams, Manager of Kendal BID, said: “There’s a real positive feeling in the town. Businesses are very upbeat, so there’s never been a better time to plan your visit to Kendal.”
A #bridgeisback social media campaign has been launched to mark the reopening of the bridge, known locally as the ‘Batman Bridge’ due to the shape of the distinctive cut outs that run along both sides.
