PLANS for a pioneering family-friendly cycle route along the coast of south Cumbria are being unveiled.

The final chosen route for the Morecambe Bay Cycle Way links Walney and Glasson, Lancashire.

Morecambe Bay Partnership received almost £300,000 from the Coastal Communities Fund towards promoting the growing cycle tourism industry and creating the UK’s first long distance cycle route accessible by electric bikes.

Janet Barton, scheme coordinator of Morecambe Bay Partnership, a charity which promotes the local environment, culture and heritage, said the route would attract more visitors to the area. Mrs Barton said: “It’s about connecting quiet roads and country tracks to have one continuous route around Morecambe Bay, taking in the fabulous scenery and heritage offer."

The Bay Cycle Way will connect, sign and improve 200km of relatively flat cycle routes.
