A Cumbrian estate agents has been taken over by a firm of solicitors.
Tiffen & Co, which has branches in Carlisle, Workington and Whitehaven, has been acquired by Bendles LLP.
Tiffen & Co's Auctionhouse Cumbria will continue as a separate business, run by Colin West.
He said: "The synergy between the two businesses is exactly what the market needs and has proved to be a very successful formula in other parts of the county.
"This strategic move also allows us to concentrate 100 per cent on Auctionhouse Cumbria which has grown way beyond our expectations since we started it in July 2008 now approaching a total £150 million of property sales.
"As this is largely due to the referrals from other estate agents and property professionals it is vitally important that we are a truly independent operation."
Neil Emmerson, who was general manager for Tiffen & Co, will become managing director of the new Tiffen company.
Bendles LLP has been providing legal services for over 200 years while Tiffen & Co has been in the property market since the 1880s.
John Stevenson, Carlisle MP and managing partner of Bendles LLP, said: "The acquisition of Tiffen & Co is a strategic move by our business which fits in with our future development plans.
"We look forward to working with all the staff and customers of Tiffen & Co and ensuring that the business goes from strength to strength.
"The link between the two businesses should be good for customers and clients. It will also allow us to grow our professional services through diversification."
