Entries are open for the CN Group Business Awards 2016, a celebration of Cumbria’s most enterprising, innovative and dynamic businesses and business people.

The climax is a black-tie dinner and awards ceremony at the Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel, near Ambleside, on October 20 featuring the Minister for Small Business, Anna Soubry, as a guest speaker.

Julian Whittle, group business editor for CN Group, the company behind Choose Cumbria, said: “The CN Group Business Awards underline how diverse and innovative Cumbria is.

“People are often amazed to discover that the Bank of England's new polymer £5 and £10 bank notes begin life in Wigton, that the pitch for the 2018 World Cup Final in Moscow will be supplied by a firm in Maryport, or that our nuclear deterrent is carried on submarines built in Barrow.

“The awards are an opportunity to make a song and dance about some of the astonishing things that Cumbrian business does and celebrate everything that is good about doing business in the county.”

Choose Cumbria is proud to support the awards, which are free to enter and open to any business trading in Cumbria.

There are 15 categories to suit enterprises of all types and sizes covering manufacturers, service businesses, new businesses, innovation, training, exporters, community involvement, environment, agri-businesses, tourism, use of the media, customer service, social enterprises, and rising stars, as well the coveted ‘businessperson of the year’.

Entrants can put their names forward in any number of categories. Previous entrants and winners are welcome to enter again.

The judges may also make a 'lifetime contribution to Cumbria' award, at their discretion.
