A Cumbrian firm has been hailed as one of the country's leading engineering companies.

Forth Engineering, based in Flimby, was handed one of the industry's top national awards in recognition of its innovation and achievement.

Winning the Small Company of the Year title at the British Engineering Excellence Awards in London, the firm was among some of the country's most talented teams.

Martin Lewis, commercial director, said: "Being called out as the winner of that category was a very proud moment for us at Forth, particularly as it was classed as an outstanding category and was fiercely competitive.

"It is a reflection of the whole team. The hard work and effort that is contributed by everyone every day to making the business a success and the quality of solutions we offer.

"The awards were an amazing experience and we were delighted just to be shortlisted - we never imagined we would actually win."

Forth – a partner of Choose Cumbria – impressed the judges with its specialisms in technical innovation along with its range of remotely operated vehicles, radiation tolerant cameras and remote tooling, which are used in the nuclear industry.

Around 300 people attended the event at London's Honourable Artillery Company, with other winners including the Williams Formula 1 team and Jaguar Land Rover.

Luke Webster, of organisers MA Business, said: "Once again, the British Engineering Excellence Awards has attracted a host of impressive entries from brilliant British innovators."
