Restaurants in Cumbria have been named in the top 10 best rated restaurants in the UK by users of TripAdvisor.
The Old Stamphouse Restaurant in Ambleside and l’Enclume in Cartmel came in eighth and tenth place in the Travellers’ Choice Awards.
The awards honour travellers' favourite fine dining establishments worldwide, based on the millions of reviews and opinions on TripAdvisor.
Award winners are determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews for restaurants around the world, gathered over a 12-month period.
The top spot was reserved for Raymond Blanc’s Belmond Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons which was also named the fourth best restaurant in the world.
The UK was also the best represented country in the awards, with three restaurants breaking into the worldwide top 10.
TripAdvisor spokesperson, Hayley Coleman, said: “With more UK restaurants in the world top ten than any other country for the second year running, the UK has again proved that it’s a heavyweight player in the world of fine dining.”
The title of number one restaurant in the world went to Spain’s Martin Berasategui in Lasarte for the second year in a row.
The news comes only two weeks after l’Enclume was awarded two Michelin stars and The Forest Side in Grasmere and the Gilpin Hotel & Lake House near Windermere both gained a Michelin star.
