Three Cumbrian businesses are in the running for honours in a competition which celebrates the best wild produce in the UK.
The public has been invited to vote in The Eat Game Awards, a national search to find the champions of British game.
Among those on the shortlist are Mrs Miller’s, of Culgaith near Penrith, and March Bank Hotel near Longtown.
Both are vying for awards in the Best Restaurant category.
Furness Game, which is based in Grange-over-Sands, is in the running for the Best Added Value Product.
The awards are a new initiative created by three leading British game businesses, James Purdey & Sons Ltd, Boisdale Restaurants and Taste of Game, to bring together the shooting, game meat and hospitality sectors.
James Horne, of Purdey, said: “The consumption of game meat is a great joy to those that have enjoyed the spoils during the game season.
“We are determined to broaden the awareness of the delights this meat brings and encourage its wider consumption across the UK.
“The awards are a tremendous way of recognising the significant breadth of game use and innovation that so many ordinary people, chefs, restaurants and companies have brought to our table.”
Voting is open in the 10 categories until next month.
The results will be announced at an awards dinner at Boisdale of Canary Wharf on October 9.
