TWO Cumbrian beaches have been named amongst the highest quality seaside locations in Britain.

Silecroft (pictured) and Haverigg - which are both an easy drive from Barrow and UIverston - have been given Seaside Awards by Keep Britain Tidy for having the very highest standards of cleanlines and facilities.

There are just 14 beaches in the whole of the north west of England that have achieved the quality mark.

Julie Betteridge, Copeland Council’s director of customer and community services, said: “This is great news. Our staff and local community partners work hard to keep our amenity beaches safe and inviting for locals, holiday makers and day trippers. These awards mean people can come along to our stunning beaches knowing they are among the nation’s best.”

Keep Britain Tidy’s Paul Todd added: “It is great to celebrate another fantastic year for these awards.

“As an environmental charity, we are committed to improving the quality of the places where people live, work and holiday and these winners have proved their commitment to providing the best possible beaches for locals and visitors alike.

“The public can be sure, if they visit a Blue Flag or Seaside Award winning beach, that they are visiting one of the best beaches in the world.”
