Cumbria competes with London for average weekly earnings

Copeland in Cumbria has come second only to London in a survey of average weekly earnings in Great Britain.

The report by the Office for National Statistics found that full-time workers in West Cumbria have earnings comparable to the City of London, Westminster and Tower Hamlets in the capital.

The survey shows that employees in Copeland earn on average of £806 per week.

Competitive salaries are also found in Barrow-in-Furness, with full-time workers taking home an average weekly salary of £561 – higher than those in cities such as Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle.

Eden also outperforms its neighbouring local authorities of Northumberland and County Durham, with an average weekly salary of £480.
