Barrow Sixth Form College is celebrating after newly released government figures revealed it is in the top tier of all sixth form colleges nationally for achievement at A level.
The Department for Education’s Skills Funding Agency’s latest statistics show the college is the second highest ranked sixth form college in the North-West.
Principal David Batten welcomed the news and praised the hard work of students and staff at the college.
He said: “We are delighted to see our impressive A level achievement rates are well ahead of many other colleges nationally.
“Not only is this something for our staff and students to celebrate but also for our community and local employers who are looking to our talented students to help develop their workforce.”
The college – a partner of Choose Cumbria – has an overall A level achievement rate of 97.4 per cent for the academic year 2014-15.
It is ranked 16 out of 93 sixth form colleges nationally for A level achievement and is placed above several that hold outstanding Ofsted grades.
