Choose South Cumbria will be promoting its #choosetostay campaign encouraging young people to pursue careers closer to home at careers fairs in Barrow and Kendal during National Apprenticeship Week 2016.
The Choose South Cumbria campaign looks to inspire young people to stay for a fantastic career and lifestyle in addition to encouraging people to relocate and return, and will be spreading the message from its stands at both Furness College and Kendal College
Furness College and Kendal College – who are both partners of Choose South Cumbria – will bring together students and employers to discuss career plans and opportunities next week. These events will also include a strong presence from major employers and supporters of Choose South Cumbria, including BAE Systems, University of Morecambe Bay Hospital Trust, Inspira and the University of Cumbria.
Claire Croskery, content manager of Choose South Cumbria, said: “We’re really keen to educate and inspire young people about their options to develop a successful career right here in Cumbria. They can take up an apprenticeship, go into further education or get the support they need to start up their own business. It really is an exciting time to begin a career in Cumbria and we want to make sure that young people are aware of and excited by the wealth of opportunities available on their doorstep.”
Furness College’s Careers Fair takes place at its Barrow-in-Furness site on Tuesday, March 15 from 3.30pm to 6.30pm, while Kendal College’s Jobs & Apprenticeship Fair will be held at its Milnthorpe Road campus from 1pm to 5pm on Thursday, March 17.
Attendees at Kendal College’s Jobs & Apprenticeship Fair will hear from inspirational guest speakers 2015 National Entrepreneur of the Year Kamal Hyman and the Director of Innovative Enterprise, Andrew Bernard.
Graham Wilkinson, Principal at Kendal College, said: “Having so many high quality employers and training providers at Kendal College provides the perfect chance for students and the local community to find out more about the career options that are available to them.”
