Organisers behind the Westmorland County Show have been putting the finishing touches to preparations for the 216th event to be held at the County Showfield, at Crooklands, near Kendal.
Last year, a record-breaking crowd of 30,000 enjoyed a feast of farming sights and attractions as well as a full programme of family entertainment.
Christine Knipe, chief executive of the Westmorland Agricultural Society, which organises the show every year, said excitement was building ahead of the opening of the gates.
“To be blessed with such a good forecast for show day, like last year, is absolutely phenomenal, particularly in Cumbria,” she said.
"The showground is looking absolutely superb – you get goosebumps imagining it in full swing after such a lot of hard work and preparation.
“And fundamentally, I am incredibly proud that this is a celebration of agriculture, giving us the chance to showcase the incredible things we have on offer in the farming industry in this area.
“I just hope everyone enjoys the show again this year.”
Visitors to this year’s Westmorland Show will have a unique chance to discover more about the virtues of working and living in South Cumbria.
Choose South Cumbria – which promotes career and lifestyle opportunities in the region – will have a trade stand at the award-winning event which is expected to draw around 30,000 people from Cumbria and beyond to the showground in Crooklands on Thursday, September 10. Visitors to the stand will have the chance to learn more about investments coming to the region through the likes of BAE Systems and GSK, the career opportunities available now and in the future, as well as what it is like as a place to live, learn and relax.
Luke Dicicco, project manager for Choose South Cumbria, explained: “Many people from around the UK associate South Cumbria as a place to come on holiday thanks to the beauty of the Lake District and Morecambe Bay but not necessarily as a place for a superb career. The message we will be giving out loud and clear at this year’s Westmorland Show is that South Cumbria boasts one of the best work/ life balances in the UK and all within easy reach of a the nation’s transport network. With all the investments taking place here it really is an exciting time to relocate.”
Choose South Cumbria was launched by CN Media Group earlier this year in partnership with BAE Systems, Furness College, GSK, Kimberly-Clark, the NHS in South Cumbria and Siemens. Since then more partners have come on board to help spread the virtues of South Cumbria including the University of Cumbria, Athena PTS, Oxley Group, Progression Solicitors, North Associates, Ulverston Victoria High School and Inspira in addition to several estate agents and tourism accommodation businesses.
