A campaign which is expanding to promote the whole of Cumbria as a place to work, live, learn and play has been named among the finalists for a prestigious global award.

Choose South Cumbria has been selected as one of the 117 finalists in the International News Media Association Global Media Awards 2016 for ‘Best Launch of a Brand or Product to Create an Audience Segment’.

The project was launched in March 2015 as a pilot by CN Media Group Ltd working in partnership with a wide-range of employers and service providers. The award nomination coincides with plans to expand across the whole of the county and bring on board more businesses keen to raise the profile of the county and the career and lifestyle opportunities arising from huge levels of investment coming to the region.

Choose South Cumbria will compete with campaigns delivered in Brazil and Canada for the award, with the winners to be announced in May.

Luke Dicicco, project manager of Choose South Cumbria, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for this prestigious global award, a sentiment that will be echoed by the partners who support this unique initiative.

“Choose South Cumbria is inspiring people from the UK and beyond to choose a career here and continues to evolve and innovate to reach audiences across the UK and further afield. We are capturing the imagination of people from Edinburgh to El Salvador by telling the stories of those who have already chosen to work and live in South Cumbria. People are at the very heart of everything we do.

“A lot of hard work has gone in to the campaign since its launch just under a year ago and we’re thrilled it has been recognised alongside other well-respected media companies from all over the world.”

Since its launch in March 2015, Choose South Cumbria has promoted the region through a major nationwide advertising campaign, a virtual careers fair, at national recruitment events, local leisure events and via social media.

The INMA Global Media Awards received 699 entries from 264 news brands in 40 different countries.

Earl J. Wilkinson, executive director and CEO of INMA, said: “The finalists for this year's Global Media Awards are aspirational brand stories connecting with audiences, delivering value for advertisers, and making a commitment to innovation.”

Winners will be announced at a glittering awards dinner on Tuesday, May 24 at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
