Busy year for Orton Grange

Published on: Friday 24th August 2018

A thriving business hub, which started as a farm diversity project, is celebrating its busiest year yet.

Orton Grange was the brainchild of dairy farmer Richard Martin and his sister Claire and began life as a small farm shop, café and gift shop in 2004.

Now the site, on the outskirts of Carlisle, is home to seven businesses, including the purpose-built Cranston’s Food Hall, and more than 70 employees.

This year, two new businesses have been added to the roster, while the original café and gift shop has come under new ownership following Claire Martin’s retirement.

New boss Kimberley Trow is no stranger to Orton Grange – her mum Ally runs the Shearing Shed hair salon next door.

“I am really excited to have taken on the café and gift shop,” she said.

“The gift shop has a fantastic product range with a lovely selection of baby gifts and a whole host of quality brands, while the café now opens every Sunday and bank holiday Monday.”
