BAE Systems is to hold a recruitment fair to mark the start of stage six of the Tour of Britain to show visitors Cumbria is the best place to work.
The submarine manufacturers will be taking over The Forum in Duke Street tomorrow so people can explore whether they have what it takes to join the Barrow-based company.
The official sponsor of the Tour of Britain is the largest employer in the Furness area, with a workforce of around 9,000 people.
A BAE Systems spokesman said: “We are delighted to sponsor the Tour of Britain and we really hope the race will help showcase Barrow and the wider county to the many thousands of spectators expected.
“Cumbria is a fantastic place to live and work and through this recruitment fair we hope to highlight the many exciting vacancies currently available at BAE Systems Submarines.”
BAE has vacancies in several different areas including engineering, project management and controls, quality, supply chain, information management systems and technology, finance, commercial, operations and commissioning.
Choose Cumbria, a membership initiative of 30 businesses and organisations from around the county designed to showcase the area’s impressive career opportunities, described the recruitment fair as a “fantastic” idea which will benefit the whole county.
Nicole Regan, of Choose Cumbria, said: “The Tour of Britain arrives in south Cumbria on Friday and it’s fantastic that BAE Systems has used this opportunity to showcase careers on offer in the local area.
“We have some great companies on our doorstep which offer amazing careers for youngsters and BAE’s recruitment fair is a brilliant way to highlight Cumbria.
“As a partner in the Choose Cumbria initiative, BAE is committed to promoting the county as the best place to live, work and play.
“This recruitment event is yet another example of how local organisations can work together to encourage skilled employees to pursue a career in Cumbria.”
A full list of career vacancies will be available at The Forum from 10am to 4pm.
Recruitment professionals from the company will be on hand to discuss career opportunities with anyone who is interested.
