Kendal based independent retailer, Armstrong Ward, are celebrating after being nominated in the national Greats Gift Retailer Awards 2015. Competing in the ‘Best Lifestyle, Homewares and Gifts’ category, Armstrong Ward will be pitched against some of the nation’s finest retailers, with the awards ceremony taking place on 7th May at the Savoy Hotel in London.
Now in their thirteenth year, The Greats Awards have become the accolades to strive for, with the awards event itself one of the most exciting and vibrant in the country, bringing together the entire gift and home industry for an afternoon of celebration.
The Greats Awards recognise and celebrate not only the top independent and multiple gift retailers regionally and nationally, but also 'one off' niche retailers and garden centres, as well as outstanding retail employees.
Named ‘Retailer of the Year’ at the CN Group Business Awards last October, Armstrong Ward is certainly no stranger to recognition, although as owner, Jacqueline Ward explains, a national competition raises the bar significantly!
“We are delighted to have been nominated at this year’s Greats Awards, which, essentially, is the ‘Oscars’ of the industry.” she said. “We are thrilled to be a finalist within a category of such high profile and innovative retailers and but will be keeping our fingers crossed! Whether we win or not, this nomination shines a light on the quality of our product and service. It also demonstrates the strength of Cumbrian business and we are delighted to be able to represent the county in such a way.”
Jacqueline and Andrew ward opened Armstrong Ward in Kendal’s ‘Wainwrights Yard’, ten years ago, with a vision to sell products and British brands that were under-represented locally.
They now offer an imaginative collection of design led gifts, toys, childrenswear, homeware and furniture, from brands such as Wesley Barrell, Emma Bridgewater, John Sankey, Moulin Roty, Maileg, NEOM and Garden Trading. Each product range is carefully selected by either Jacqueline or Andrew, with personal service and exceptional customer relations at the very heart of what they do.
In 2011, they extended their offerings to include a café, situated on the ground floor of their Kendal premises, providing refreshments and homemade cakes, with special diets catered for. Prior to opening Armstrong Ward, Jacqueline, who was born in Kendal, worked in new product development with a number of national retailers such as Marks & Spencer and ASDA.
In October 2014, Armstrong Ward won ‘Retailer of the Year’ at the CN Group Business Awards.
