Cyclists can explore a number of cycle routes in the area and there are plenty of guided walks. The River Eden offers some amazing views and riverside walks including an interesting hike down to nearly Brougham Castle.
In the town centre walkers can take in Penrith’s rich history and explore Penrith Castle and Penrith Beacon. The castle is open to the public during daylight hours and is free. And of course, with the Lake District on your doorstep, the outdoor options are pretty much limitless...
A mile to the south you’ll find Brougham Hall, a 14th century, restored country manor with artist studios, sculptures and a tea room. Just a few minutes down the A66 is Rheged, a centre that offers exhibitions, a collection of shops selling local crafts and produce, a café & restaurant, soft play, adventure playground, pot painting, a 3D cinema, theatre space and a year-round programme of events.
