Athena PTS champions committed and conscientious employees

Athena PTS is an independent, privately-owned company providing electrical design consultancy, project support services, specialist installation works and electrical contracting. The company, recently placed at No 7 in The Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100, prides itself on an informal yet professional approach and champions its committed and conscientious employees.
Choose Cumbria spoke to Operations Director Mark Skeels and Power Systems Consultants Junyu Han and Xuna Li, both from China, about life at Athena PTS and how the company has helped them settle – both inside and outside work.
How does Athena PTS support staff development?
Mark: We have discussions with individual employees every three months to see how they feel things are going in their roles at Athena PTS. It’s important to us that this is seen as a two-way discussion. It’s not just the directors talking to our employees, we also encourage feedback from them. This could cover ideas for improvement in any aspect of the company including training requirements for the individual on their career path.
Xuna: We can share our opinions and suggestions with our managers and say what we’re thinking. We’re all treated as individuals. Our managers always give us a hand if we need them. Our colleagues and directors are really easy-going.
Junyu: Mark and our directors take care of their employees. We feel very comfortable working here.
How does the company support people who have relocated to the area?
Mark: I try to put myself in Junyu and Xuna’s situations. We don’t want people to feel isolated at work if they’ve just moved to the area, so we do our best to communicate with employees and make them feel as welcome as possible. We also want to make sure the workload and the way we deliver things is user-friendly.
Xuna: Before Junyu joined Athena PTS, I told him it was a good company and a great place to start his first job!
Junyu: Xuna was right! It’s a very good job and I’m happy here.
Mark: Xuna and Junyu are very positive and an asset to the company. They’re learning here and want to develop their careers. It’s a great career path and experience for them.
