“GPs in Cumbria are driven to be the best in the country”

Published on: Wednesday 15th June 2016

Doctor Chris Corrigan explains why GPs should relocate to the region for an exciting career.

"Come and join General Practice in our county.

We have a long tradition of delivering high quality primary care based on a consistency of committed GPs found in each and every practice across the county. I think this is the very thing that has held our services to our patients together so well over the difficult recent years in Cumbria.

In our practices you will find GPs who are passionate in maintaining good quality, up-to-date care for patients, while also investing heavily in supporting our new GP colleagues who are new to the role and providing them valued support, especially in those earlier years.

Cumbria has also actively placed GPs in the driving seat for defining and developing future services across Primary and Secondary Care. Each locality is lucky to have very active GP Leads in the NHS Cumbria CCG.

We all know that the Health Service faces challenging times. Challenging times are perfect to enable innovation. We in Cumbria are keen to drive forward service improvement, so that patients get the best deal, doctors have an enjoyable work life with lots of varied opportunities to pull together a portfolio for different styles of working that match the interests of many different GPs.

We also recognise the importance of building ever increasing skills of the other team members around us, to help us keep up with the demands upon the service without always looking to the GP as the only person to do everything!

So join us, be part of a mutually supporting team who are keen to not only maintain good quality services but far more - we in Cumbria are driven to be the best in the country."

Five reasons GPs should choose a career in Cumbria.

NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is hosting a GP Recruitment Fair on Friday, June 17, in collaboration with Cumbria Health on Call (CHoC) and other partners.

The drop-in event will take place from 1pm to 8pm at Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, Redhills, Penrith, CA11 0DT.
